First of all， thank you Viking/Penguin Random House for an ARC。 "The Boy and The Dog" by Seishu Hase was a good novel。 The idea/plot have been written about before， and several movies have also been made about this subject。 The story revolves around a German Shepard/ Japanese breed mix named Tamon。 After a devastating earthquake and tsunami， a young man finds Tamon outside a convenience store。 This young man， Kazumasa Nakagaki， is the first in a series of owners that Tamon will encounter。 During First of all， thank you Viking/Penguin Random House for an ARC。 "The Boy and The Dog" by Seishu Hase was a good novel。 The idea/plot have been written about before， and several movies have also been made about this subject。 The story revolves around a German Shepard/ Japanese breed mix named Tamon。 After a devastating earthquake and tsunami， a young man finds Tamon outside a convenience store。 This young man， Kazumasa Nakagaki， is the first in a series of owners that Tamon will encounter。 During each encounter， he changes the lives of those that he comes in contact with。 During each encounter， it is obvious that Tamon is attempting to return to his original owner （or is he？）。 The characters are interesting and diverse from one another。 If you are a dog lover， this novel will definitely tug at your heart strings。The author， Seishu Hase， was born， raised， and continues to live in Japan。 He has received numerous writing awards。 I believe that this is the first novel that has been translated into the English language。I would definitely read other novels by this author， if they became available。 。。。more

Can a guardian angel be in the form of a dog？ If you’ve ever had a special bond with a dog you just might believe it is possible that they came into your life for a reason。 That sums up the premise of this book， this lovely， thoughtful， sad， wonderful book。Tamon seems to appear out of nowhere and enters the lives of people。 Is he there to comfort them or assuage their loneliness or perhaps to guide them in a different life direction？This is a endearing story of the travels of a dog who is trying Can a guardian angel be in the form of a dog？ If you’ve ever had a special bond with a dog you just might believe it is possible that they came into your life for a reason。 That sums up the premise of this book， this lovely， thoughtful， sad， wonderful book。Tamon seems to appear out of nowhere and enters the lives of people。 Is he there to comfort them or assuage their loneliness or perhaps to guide them in a different life direction？This is a endearing story of the travels of a dog who is trying to find the person he loves。 Along the way he is helped by strangers or maybe he’s the one helping these strangers。 Anyway， I enjoyed this book which was a sentimental read and did bring a few tears at the end but as I previously stated， if you ever had a dog who was not so much a dog but your best friend or a member of your family then this book is a must read。The storyline was unexpected in some ways but very much what I needed to read。I won this book in a First Reads giveaway。 Thank you to Viking， Penguin Random House and the author Seishu Hase。 。。。more

Seishu Hase has written a moving and whimsical tale about a dog called Tamon。This wouldn't necessarily be the type of book I would gravitate towards- animal fiction- but having read The Nagano Thrift Shop and the Before The Coffee Gets Cold series I was curious to read this book。 There is a melancholy within Japanese novels and a sense of trying to determine a deeper meaning within life。 Tamon is regarded as an angel who has come to watch over people during times of despair and tragedy。 Separate Seishu Hase has written a moving and whimsical tale about a dog called Tamon。This wouldn't necessarily be the type of book I would gravitate towards- animal fiction- but having read The Nagano Thrift Shop and the Before The Coffee Gets Cold series I was curious to read this book。 There is a melancholy within Japanese novels and a sense of trying to determine a deeper meaning within life。 Tamon is regarded as an angel who has come to watch over people during times of despair and tragedy。 Separated from his owner， Tamon's journey to reunite is 'interrupted' by meeting five different people who take Tamon into their lives。 Tamon's perception that each of them needs comfort， love and companionship is what adds to the charm of this story。 Yes， death and grief are within but each time there is a sense of relief and understanding at each point and Tamon is there to show his canine understanding of the human condition。 The only criticism would be that some of the tales are deep in content and each of the characters stories often needed more focus /understanding - or is it a case of less is more ？ A winter's day read when you need a book exploring life's rich web of journeys 。。。more

Si me pongo a pensar sobre de qué trata el libro， pues es muy básico: un perro llamado Tamon pasa de dueño el dueño después de un tsunami en Japon hasta que llega al hogar que él considera suyo。 Pero el tema en sí creo va más allá， y que son las difíciles relaciones humanas entre personas que se aman。 El perro es simplemente un catalizador de cambio y transformación。 Vemos la historia de un ladrón que sufrió el asesinato de sus padres， una prostituta con un secreto de su amante con el cual no pu Si me pongo a pensar sobre de qué trata el libro， pues es muy básico: un perro llamado Tamon pasa de dueño el dueño después de un tsunami en Japon hasta que llega al hogar que él considera suyo。 Pero el tema en sí creo va más allá， y que son las difíciles relaciones humanas entre personas que se aman。 El perro es simplemente un catalizador de cambio y transformación。 Vemos la historia de un ladrón que sufrió el asesinato de sus padres， una prostituta con un secreto de su amante con el cual no puede vivir， la familia sin recursos de un trabajador， un padre y una hija， un matrimonio que ya no tiene magia y una familia que ha sufrido los traumas de una catástrofe。 Donde el perro llega hay temas de relaciones humanas que el perrito permite que los personajes se reconozcan y acepten que deben cambiar para poder abrirse a los demás。 Los diálogos entre cada persona y el perro son entrañables porque sirve de espejo a lo que no han visto antes para que se reconozcan， y solo lo hace o moviendo la cola o apoyándose sobre sus humanos。 Si， cada historia comienza y termina igual， pareciese repetitiva， pero creo que está hecha para que se vea más de fondo。 ¿Cual es el tema de vida que debe resolver su próximo dueño？ Y eso sirve para llevar la historia。 Si se lee superficialmente por las historias， es cierto， parecerá a veces soso e incompleto， además por lo simple de su escritura （que bueno sea de hecho que el libro ocurre en Japón y es escrito por un japonés， de los cuales desconozco totalmente su forma de escritura y si de pronto en la traducción haya habido pérdidas）。Al final del día， te hace pensar， cuál es nuestro rol en esta vida。 Quienes llegan y salen de ella son agentes transformadores de nuestra propia esencia， para justamente， acercarnos más a ella。 。。。more

Delante de la puerta de un konbini， un hombre se topa con un perro。 Rápidamente siente una atracción muy grande hacia el animal。 Hay algo extraño en los ojos del perro， parece tener un propósito。 Sus gestos y su mirada resuman inteligencia。 Pese a no tener la mejor de las situaciones económicas， debido al gran tsunami que asoló Japón hace algún tiempo， decide socorrer al animal。 Sabe que la opción de un perro callejero es la perrera y， posiblemente， la muerte。 Pronto descubrirá que Tamon， como a Delante de la puerta de un konbini， un hombre se topa con un perro。 Rápidamente siente una atracción muy grande hacia el animal。 Hay algo extraño en los ojos del perro， parece tener un propósito。 Sus gestos y su mirada resuman inteligencia。 Pese a no tener la mejor de las situaciones económicas， debido al gran tsunami que asoló Japón hace algún tiempo， decide socorrer al animal。 Sabe que la opción de un perro callejero es la perrera y， posiblemente， la muerte。 Pronto descubrirá que Tamon， como así indica que se llama el collar que lleva en su cuello， está buscando algo。 Lo primero que debo decir es que me esperaba algo totalmente diferente cuando empecé a leer “El chico y el perro”， en cuanto a la trama y como se desarrolla， y eso me chocó bastante de entrada。 A ratos me gustó， y a ratos no tanto， pero es un punto que le da un toque diferente， eso seguro。 No quiero decir mucho de como gira la trama， para respetar la propia sinopsis， y para no arrebatar la sorpresa， pero imagino que es algo que para según que lector pueda ser un detalle positivo y para otros， les quitará intensidad。 Para mí sigo sin tenerlo claro。Pese a la sorpresa de la que hablo， el libro aporta lo que promete， grandes dosis de ternura。 Claramente es un canto a la figura del perro， la gente que se relaciona con Tamon lo trata con cariño， incluso se diviniza la figura de este como si fuera un dios protector， que salvaguarda a su amigo humano de todo lo malo。 Un ser que protege y da suerte。 Esto es algo que a veces he comprado y a veces no。 Pero ya me explayaré algo mejor cuando hable de la parte mala。 Es， ciertamente， una historia bonita， de estas que se encuentran mucho dentro de la literatura contemporánea japonesa。 Historias sencillas， dulces， con una gran carga emotiva， pero que se disfrutan como si fueran un paseo por un sitio agradable al que siempre vuelves。 Es imposible no dejarse tocar la fibra por Tamon， sobre todo para los que compartimos nuestras vida con otros animales y no concebimos vivir de otra manera。Sin embargo， ha habido cositas que me han restado y han perjudicado mi impresión final de la obra。 Para empezar， está bien considerar a los perros como un ser que protege， es algo bonito relacionarnos con ellos expresando esa gran estima， pero cuando da la sensación de que el objetivo de su existencia es solo proteger al ser humano， ya el discurso es menos bonito。 Deja de serlo de hecho。 Tampoco entiendo mucho que un libro con claras intenciones de alabar la relación de amor entre personas y perros， añada personajes "agradables" que se dedican a cazar a otros animales como afición。 Nuevamente el discurso se diluye。 Especismo sin más。El final tampoco me ha ayudado a ver lo negativo de otra manera， si no más bien a profundizarlo。 Aún así， no creo que sea un mal libro， es tierno y bonito， y hay una intención positiva de fondo， pero quizás me ha faltado ese poquito de algo más para que me terminara de enamorar。 Eso， sumado a las cositas negativas， que no son muchas ni constantes， aunque estén ahí， ha dejado la historia en un "está bien， pero no mata"。 Me sorprende mucho que el autor escribiera hasta este momento sobre la yakuza y de pronto hiciera este libro。 A ver si publican más cositas de él。 。。。more

Very interesting and quick read。 We follow Tamon on his journey home， or so we think。 Throughout the book， we're really unsure where this dog comes from or where he is headed。 He meets various types of people along his journey who Tamon really inspired and I believe each person needed to meet this dog。 I love how he was written; he was kind of portrayed as an all-knowing dog， very strong and sure of himself， never beacking away when there's trouble。 There were some parts that were unexpected and Very interesting and quick read。 We follow Tamon on his journey home， or so we think。 Throughout the book， we're really unsure where this dog comes from or where he is headed。 He meets various types of people along his journey who Tamon really inspired and I believe each person needed to meet this dog。 I love how he was written; he was kind of portrayed as an all-knowing dog， very strong and sure of himself， never beacking away when there's trouble。 There were some parts that were unexpected and that's why it's 4 stars and not 5， and I feel like if I said what was unexpected， it's be a huge spoiler。 Overall， was a really intrested book and will be adding it to my collection when it's comes out in the fall！ 。。。more
